Explanation

The National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) groups crimes into three categories:

  • Person crimes, such as assault and manslaughter
  • Property crimes, such as robbery and extortion
  • Society Crimes, such as drug and weapons violations

In Thurston County, property crimes make up the largest proportion of reported incidents (68%), followed by person crimes (nearly 25%).

Prison admissions in Thurston County have increased significantly since 1990 and have fluctuated since 2004. Spikes in prison admissions occurred in 2004 (414), 2009 (426), and 2019 (445).
