Energy Use

Data Table

Explanation

Between 2019 and 2020, overall energy consumption by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customers in Thurston County decreased by 5.6%. Electricity consumption decreased by 6.9% while natural gas consumption decreased by 3.7%.

Energy Units

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) typically reports electricity use in kilowatt-hours while natural gas use is reported in therms. These units both convert into megajoules (MJ), which are used in the chart above to compare energy sources used by PSE's customers. The following conversion rates apply:

  • 1 therm = 105.48 MJ
  • 1 kilowatt-hour = 3.6 MJ

These conversion rates are estimates. The exact rates will vary based on energy source.

Sustainable Thurston Report Card

The Sustainable Thurston Report Card tracks how well the Thurston region is doing at becoming carbon neutral.  The goal includes three targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions:

  • Achieve 45% reduction of 2015 levels by 2030
  • Achieve 85% reduction of 2015 levels by 2050
