The Urban Corridor Communities project will build on efforts and achievements made through two TRPC partner projects:

Urban Corridors Task Force

Vibrant urban corridors are a cornerstone of the Thurston Region's long range vision. Creating communities that offer a sense of "place" - compact, walkable neighborhoods where housing choices, transportation options and business opportunities intersect - requires new partnerships, innovative approach and strategic investments.

Below are links to projects initiated by local partners, each with the goal to transform an existing urban corridor - and to create lively and inviting neighborhoods where people will want to live, work, shop and play.

The Brewery District Planning Project will identify opportunities to revitalize a walkable commercial & residential area in this historic Tumwater neighborhood that was once home to the iconic Olympia Brewery. Learn More >

Walkability

Walkability is the measure of how comfortable an area is for walking. Elements taken into consideration to rate walkability include how accessible, safe, convenient and inviting an area is – for people wishing to travel on foot.

In early August a local Walkability Audit Workshop was conducted, followed by a demonstration audit that looked at several areas along Thurston County’s urban corridor. The documents linked below contain information used during the training and during the audit itself, and a report illustrating the findings of the audit.
