Internship Opportunity at the Thurston Regional Planning Council
The Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) is looking for a capable, self-starter to join its staff as an intern beginning in early March 2017. The internship is expected to last 3 to 4 months. Compensation is $15 per hour. Work schedule will be determined within the traditional 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. workday. Anticipated hourly commitment per week is 30-40 hours. The intern will assist with the development of a sidewalk inventory for the City of Lacey and its Urban Growth Area. The intern will work under the supervision of senior GIS staff at TRPC to develop a GeoDatabase of sidewalk infrastructure for use in the development of a Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan for the City of Lacey.
Knowledgeable in the use of ArcGIS software suite.
Experience developing and editing data in ESRI Geodatabase format.
Experience developing metadata for GIS datasets.
Excellent record keeping and organizational capabilities; careful attention to detail; comfortable working with numbers; public service oriented.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, via e-mail and over the telephone.
Experience operating a PC in Windows environment. Experience using word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to conduct research and gather data using the Internet.
Interest/career plans in GIS, regional planning, demographic and economic trends, and/or local government affairs.
