FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 20, 2017 SUBJECT: Thurston Regional Planning Council Hires New Executive Director CONTACT: Veena Tabbutt, Interim Executive Director
Marc Daily, new TRPC Executive Director
The Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) welcomes Marc Daily as its new Executive Director.
“Marc’s breadth of leadership and experience will enhance the agency and help create new opportunities for our members,” interim Executive Director Veena Tabbutt noted.
In February, Mr. Daily will transition to TRPC from the Puget Sound Partnership, where he served as Deputy Director since 2011, including a year as Interim Executive Director and member of Governor Jay Inslee’s Executive Cabinet. The Partnership focuses on restoring the health of Puget Sound.
Daily’s background also includes public-sector positions with the state Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Natural Resources and a private-sector position with an environmental consulting firm. Mr. Daily holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Assessment, from Western Washington University, and a master’s degree in Urban Planning, from the University of Washington.
Mr. Daily, who will begin work with TRPC on Feb. 21, noted his excitement about this new opportunity, but also the importance of “providing a smooth transition for the Partnership and TRPC.” Marc Daily replaces Lon Wyrick, who served as Executive Director for 16 years and retired in July of 2016.
The Council is composed of decision-makers from 21 jurisdictions and organizations in Thurston County, meets monthly to address challenges and opportunities such as transportation, growth management, economic opportunity, and environmental quality. The Council supports efforts to maintain and improve our community through collaborative planning and serves as a “convener to build regional consensus on issues through information and public involvement.” The agency also provides data, mapping, and modeling to support public- and private-sector decision making. Created in 1967, TRPC’s mission is to “provide visionary leadership on regional plans, policies, and issues.”
