TRPC Federal Grant Program Awards, 2017-2019

On December 2, TRPC awarded 28 grants totaling $9,099,168 for local transportation projects that will move forward over the next three years. These awards combined with their local and state matching revenues represent nearly $21 million in local transportation investments. The Council selected priority projects that will make the transportation system safer for all users, improve the efficiency of the transportation network, and repair or replace aging infrastructure. 

A variety of multimodal projects, programs, and studies were selected including:

  • Construction of the Deschutes Valley Trail from Tumwater Historical Park to Falls Park
  • Construction of two roundabouts
  • Reconstruction of Desoto Street in Tumwater
  • Upgrading Mullen Road to add sidewalks, bike lanes, and street lighting between 
    Carpenter Road and Lacey City Limits
  • Corridor and area transportation studies for Bucoda and Tenino, Grand Mound, Rochester, and Yelm
  • Installation of pedestrian activated flashing beacons in Olympia, Tumwater, Rainier, and Tenino
  • Safe routes to schools programs
  • Pavement preservation projects
  • Updating and reprinting the Thurston County Bicycle Map
