Data TableLanguage Spoken at Home
ExplanationAccording to the 2011 to 2015 American Community Survey, approximately 14,000 Thurston County households (13.6%) speak a language other than English at home.

In 2,300 of Thurston County’s households (2.2%), no one age 14 or older speaks only English or speaks English “very well.” The U.S. Census Bureau considers these households to be “linguistically isolated.”

Linguistic Isolation

The Census Bureau defines a “linguistically isolated” household one in which no member 14 years old or older:
  • speaks only English, or
  • speaks English “very well.”
When these conditions are met, all members of the household are tabulated as linguistically isolated, including those individuals that are under 14 years old who speak only English.
